Default Should I buy GW:EN?

Simple question, should I buy GW:EN?

After reading some review from player, I think
GW:EN suit hardcore player more than casual
player.

I like armor but people say they are re-skinned.
I liked to farm gold but loot scaling took that fun
away from me. Got problem to trade also.
I usually cannot spend more than 2 continuous
hour on a mission/quest. (got kids)

What does GW:EN offer to someone like me?
(poor casual player that can't spent a lot of
time in GW lately)

My Vote: BUY!

Pros:
1. Dungeons are fun to do and most don't take more than an hour.
2. Best looking offering in the GW franchise. You will know when you go in Cathedral of flames. Astonishing!
3. Its casual. No hardcore stuff unless you like to get kind of a big deal titles.

Cons:
1. Involves grinding if you are a title hound.
2. Not much content.
3. Armors are a bit letdown.

Overall its a nice installment but, could have been wayyyyyyyy better for $39.99.

My 2 cents.

Missions are shorter than in previous areas. Dungeons on the long side for some, but not too bad. No like 3 hour runs. Can do most with heroes and henchmen. The grind IMO is rather interesting as it is like a minigame. Every 25 kills get a bonus, then rez shrines give bonuses after 25 kills.

The issue is it seems like some fun PvP stuff should have been added but was not like boxing and polymock, and neither are interesting after you run through it. Should have been 25 USD as that is all the game is really worth IMO.

So up to you here.

You should.

Vel says it all, really, but I'd like to add that not all armors are re-skins, and that the collector pieces look truly unique.

The world is AWESOME, by the way. Breathtaking graphics.

Don't waste your money. Reskins, limited content, grinding, reskined weapons for rewards at the end, could go on and on. Not like the other 3 games at all.

I actually think GWEN is catered more for the casual than hardcore player.

Hardcore players looking for high end-game content seem to be disappointed.

People not so worried about titles, grinding and armor seem to like it much more. I've heard claims of people finishing the main story in 7 hours (!), but I've played at least 6 hours just messing around in the far shiverpeaks, LOL. So, I feel like I have much more to explore.

IMO, $40 is not a lot of money. I spend $15 a month on movies, $60 a month on cable, etc., etc. So, even if GWEN takes 7 hours to finish (!), that's $5.71 a hour. And I suspect people will play more when new areas get updates, as they probably will...

Remember, once you buy it, you can play until the servers close, which will hopefully be a long, long time from now...

In GW:EN, certain outposts can take a while to reach, and some of the primary quests can be rather lengthy. At least they seem longer than previous quests in other campaigns.

I consider myself a casual gamer, and it's often difficult for me to play over 30 minutes to an hour without having to break away to attend to some real life issue. In previous games, I found I could nearly always complete a quest or reach the next town within my available time. In GW:EN, I found this to not be the case, especially for some of the longer quests that morph into dungeon-delves mid-way through. If you can truly manage to play up to 2 hours straight, then you probably won't have a problem.

I have found the difficulty of GW:EN significantly harder than other campaigns, yet the rewards are incredibly poor. Items that do drop are usually less than max damage, and are more on par with the junk found in the mid-prophecies region. To me, this is the most compelling reason to not buy it.

If you enjoy getting killed over and over and enduring a near-steady -60dp just to find a handful of crappy items, then GW:EN may be a good choice. If not, consider at least waiting for now until ANet addresses the risk vs. reward balance problem in GW:EN.

DO NOT ASK THAT QUESTION HERE.

You will get some very biased answers here, or more correctly, some extremely bipolar answers. Even from me.

It's either very very good, or very very bad. Honestly, I would suggest you ask a source of credited reviewers, or better yet, seek a trial account and test it out yourself.

Because only you can tell yourself if you will love or hate the game.

People say its not like the other three campaigns, and they are right! It's an expansion, not a whole campaign. Some people say the Star of Transference is a total waste because it uses a skill point to make a skill point, but then again its the Star of T-R-A-N-S-F-E-R-ance.

You get more than your fair share of entertainment for $40.

This expansion really opened my eyes to the DP thing - sure, I get slaughtered a lot and that wasn't how I liked playing at all in the other three campaigns. If I got somewheres in the -30% range, I'd get pissed and map back. In GWen, I've been at -60 or thereabouts with all heroes/henchies, last few rooms to a boss, and just slogged through and with a slightly different strategy - guess what? -60 is bad, but I ended up with that bosses head on a plate!

Its more thinking and crazy builds - I've got a Rit with an axe and a couple of Ebon PvE skills, and that same rit also has a build just for brass knuckles. I start up a fight with rit skills, doing my best, usually get low in HP then I Ursan Bear those buggers and I am mowing them down! Awesome!

Graphics are spectacular, especially the burning forest. I saw a volcano in a dungeon that made the Fire Island Chain look like it was drawn with crayons.

Quests are great, frustrating sometimes. There's a crazy NPC named Vael who will just randomly appear in a zone and joins your group spouting arrogant garbage. Awesome!

You don't need to go on what people "say". Look at the pictures of the new armor that accompany the statements that they are re-skinned. Then after seeing the pictures, and seeing pictures of the armors they state are re-skinned, you can decide for yourself if they are re-skinned or not. Since pictures of all the armor are readily available, there is no reason at all to rely on what someone "says" in regards to this point.

As for if you should buy it if you are a casual player: maybe, since it's very easy to beat the game in a day. So if you want a short game then that might be good for you since short games appeal to casual players.

The other issues mentioned in the OP: loot scaling and trading --- no changes to these whatsoever in the new game so if you didn't like that in the other games you will dislike it just as much in EOTN.

BUY!

I'm a casual player, and I'm having fun with it. There are some definite challenges that the hardcore player can probably leap over in a single bound and that I'll overcome eventually with practice practice and more practice.

Regarding the armor... there's no accounting for taste. Whatever people have to say about it is based on their own taste... not yours... There's pictures on the wiki... http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Armor

They've also added some fun new headpieces in this expansion (and I want one of everything): bandanas, eyeglasses (regular, slim and tinted), crowns, woads (not all are blue though), ninja masks (called Mask of the Mo Zing), dread masks and blindfolds.

Besides all the features others have already told you about, there's lots of humor and imaginative fun new games to play.

Quoted for truth. Since you (the OP) are a casual player I think you'll like it a lot. The main content is geared more for casual players than people used to the domain of anguish and such. Also I find the story to be very nice because as you save the world you also get to see your heroes get resolution for their own character specific problems/issues.

As another poster mentioned, you may find some primary quests have multiple parts where you'll lose progress if you quit halfway through, but many others are short enough to do well within an hour. You may want to consult Guild wars wiki to see which primary quests involve a dungeon because these are the longer ones.

You also mentioned that you liked farming so I guess I should point out that the new armors pretty much require a half dozen hours of grind so you may find that going for those armors is a fun little goal to pursue when you don't want to bother progressing through the storyline. Wiki has pics of most of the new armors already. I suggest you check them out yourself rather than just letting all the disappointment (though founded) sway you. In my oppinion the Monument (vanguard) and Norn armors are generally very nice while the others suck. My necro can't wait to get monument armor!

After having played it since the sneak peek, I would say NO don not waste your money on GWEN. Unless you like paying premium dollar for a poorly though-out, content deficient expansion. Then go for it.

The only thing I enjoy of gw:en are dungeons. That's all. And the easiest takes at least 1 hour to complete, so if you cannot play all day ( ) I suggest you to do not buy it.
